Insurance Institute Announces Its New Top Safety Pick+ Award

Now that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has added a new frontal crash test to its portfolio, it announced on Thursday that it will add a new safety award to recognize vehicles that do even better than those that receive its Top Safety Pick award. The new award, the Top Safety Pick+, is intended to reward 2013 models that do well in the new, more severe frontal crash test, called the small overlap test. The organization now has two top awards. “This is very confusing even for us,” said Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
