World’s Catastrophes In 2004 Took 300,000 Lives, Cost $49 Billion In Insured Losses

In the year 2004, more than 300,000 people died in the 330 natural and man-made catastrophes that occurred on our planet with 280,000 of those missing or presumed dead from December’s horrific tsunami. These losses cost insurers over $49 billion dollars worldwide in insurable losses with most of this money going to windstorms in both the United States and Japan.
